ANKOLE WOMEN IN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (AWIDA)
BACKGROUND
Ankole Women In Development Association was formed to economically, socially, culturally and politically empower women in Ankole Western Uganda. AWIDA is an association and membership based. It brings together women, women’s groups and organizations that are operating in Ankole Sub-Region.

A just and peaceful society with empowered, happy and prosperous women
MISSION
To empower Women socially, culturally, economically and politically through Capacity Building, information dissemination, Networking and advocacy
MAIN GOAL
To improve the standard of living of Women through Implementation of Community Based Projects where women are empowered to address social, economic, cultural and political injustices that affect women
AWIDA Objectives
- To increase women’s access to productive resources and economic opportunities without discrimination.
- To promote a peaceful and just environment where women and girls exercise their equal rights as human beings.
- To promote and foster gender equity and equality as well as set minimum standards for the promotion and protection of rights of women and girls
- To enhence partnerships with the Local Governments, women’s Non-Governmental Organisations and women’s Community Based Organisations to work together to promote and protect the rights of women and girls.
- To address the challenges that women and girls face in the daily operations including the threat of violence, harassment and discrimination in critical decision making processes.
GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT OF AWIDA
AWIDA’s Governing Board
1) This is comprised of 4 Women who founded the Association
2) The Governing Board is Responsible for the overall governance of the Association
3) The Governing Board provides overall strategic Direction of the Association


AWIDA Members Assembly
1) This brings together all the members of the Association
2) AWIDA Members meet twice in year in June and December
3) AWIDA Members Assembly is the supreme organ of the Association whose Decisions override those of lower organs
.
4) The Members Assembly reviews and adopts AWIDA Constitution.
AWIDA Members’ Assembly
1) This brings together all the members of the Association

AWIDA Board Of Directors
1) The Board is comprised of 9 members including the Executive Director who is the Ex-Officio to the Board. All Board Members are women
2) Board Members are elected by the members Assembly every after 5 Years
3) The Board of Directors approves financial statements of the Association
4) The Board scrutinizes the auditors’ reports.

Women’s Rights awareness and Promotion
This program aims at
Raising awareness of the Gender specific rights of Women through
Community meetings, Roundtables, Public Debates, Sensitization
workshops, Training and information dissemination
